Andy May has smashed the Cudmore Fishery record with a 208lb mixed bag. The massive weight came from Suez Lake on the venue, with Andy’s catch containing ide, skimmers, chub, roach and F1s, in a net that he estimated to contain over 80lb of silver fish.
The MAP and Marukyu-backed ace explained: “I was really happy with my draw of Peg 22 on Suez Lake, and with warm weather expected I fully expected the day to turn into a bagging race!
"For this reason, I only got six metres of pole out of my holdall, and set up just two shallow rigs and two edge rigs! The fish were in a very obliging mood, and I caught a fish almost every drop-in for the duration of the day. The really nice thing was the variety of fish that I caught, though – It was a truly mixed bag, with most of the fish averaging between 1lb and 2lb.
"Casters were my feed bait of choice and I limited myself to three pints as I had a coaching day the next day, so I had to keep some bait back for then! Best hook bait was double white maggot and it was, quite literally, a fish a chuck for most of the match.
"As it turned out, the whole venue fished brilliantly – with loads of big 100lb weights, but fortunately my 208lb was enough to win on the day, and set a new venue record.”
