Kirkwood Kicks Ass!

Manchester man sneaks £60,000 qualifier.

Kerry Kirkwood smashed last weekends Mega Match This qualifiers at the popular Midlands bagging Mecca, Heronbrook Fishery last weekend. This was sell-out event, with 120 anglers lining the banks Meadow, Bridge and Canal Lakes, all enjoying pleasant conditions for the most part despite some struggling with the wind.

The standard of fishing, as expected, was superb with over 100lb needed to qualify for the Maver British Pole Championships and very little separating the top seven anglers.

Winner on the day, and making his way through to the 2015 Mega Match This Final, was thirty-nine year old meter reader, Kerry Kirkwood. Kerry drew peg seven on Meadow and opted to fish meat short at 6m for the majority of his match to take F1s and carp up to 8lbs and end the day with 134-07-00.

Finishing close behind in second place, and narrowly missing out on qualifying for his second Match This Final, was Matrix rod, Les Thompson. Les drew fancied peg 44, also on Meadow, and started his match on pellet fished tight to far side cover. Les tempted odd fish but struggled on account of the wind. Prepping his margins throughout the match, Les switched to casters tight to the reeds, but could only find odd silver fish. After two hours Les was struggling.

Switching to his margins, Les found feeding fish and enjoyed a hectic spell of action until, once again, the wind started to make things difficult. Managing to catch a few more shallow when the wind dropped during the final stages of the match, Les offered 130-08-00 to the scales.

Matrix man Andy Geldart secured an overall lake win from peg 24 on Bridge to finish in third place ending the match with 129-00-00. Andy will join Kerry and Matrix colleague Les Thompson in this year's British Pole Championship final.

Paul Gibson (Maver Pickering) secured fourth place from peg three on Meadow with 125lbs exactly and qualifies for the Maver British Pole Championship final.

Venue regular Jason Brown (Maver Midlands) finished in fifth place overall with 115-14-00 from peg 9 on Canal to book his place in the British Pole Championships at Larford later in the year.
